Day to day...in our first week

Having been here a week now we haven't settled into a pattern of life as yet. We are currently living in Patrick's daughter's room and have been unable to unpack. This weekend though, we are moving into a more permanent room so my need for order will be restored as I finally locate clean underwear and toothpaste...

One strange and exciting new development created by differing timezones is that Lee's bodyclock now wakes him at about 7.30am (YES - AM!) and makes him sleepy at about 10. This is all well and good but mine has shifted me even further back so that I am now almost comatose by 9pm and perky by 6!

Another task for this week was to organise a car. The amazing and greatly benevolent Andy Kent (my ex-boss at Angel Solutions) has said we can borrow his wheels for our time here. It's a Toyota RAV4 so from today (hopefully) Lee and I will be mobile! We're off on a small road trip today to collect it from further up the north of the island.

Our ministry of "leaving a bed in every country we visit" continues apace as we purchased one for our new room yesterday. It may be shop soiled and cheap but it's ours! We bought it from a place that sold Tempur mattresses so we spent a little time lying on one and thinking of home before settling on our decidedly less luxurious option! My back wept.

We have been spending a bit of time with one of the sons here, Jordan who is a film director. He's been giving us his wisdom on the industry and hopefully will help us get some work experience. With this passion for media in the family its not surprising that the family watch a lot of films here. A LOT. They also pretty much have a Mac per person. Lee is in Mac/media heaven! He is also desperate for an iPhone - and NZ is one of the only places in the world you can buy them unlocked to use on any network. Temptation is near...too near...

So generally this last week has been a mix of family life (cooking, eating, chatting, film-watching) and practical tasks as we try to settle in and find our place.

Sounds wonderful you guys!! Love the pics from your wee trips around the place, hope the car collecting goes okay.
So I think you should put up a sidebar on your blog with movies you've been watching and a score out of 10 alongside too. Then you can be educating us all along the way too ;)
